Jon Boden is one of the outstanding performers of traditional music of his generation. He has clocked-up eleven BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and although he is widely respected as an interpreter of traditional song, he has a musical repertoire which extends far beyond the boundaries of just one genre.
Most recognisably he was the lead singer (and one of the principal arrangers) of the furiously energetic folk big band Bellowhead, one of the most exciting live acts of recent years. Over 12 years Bellowhead achieved a level of critical and commercial success unmatched by any other band working in English traditional music in the last three decades. In 2015 Jon announced that he had decided to leave the band and on May 1st 2016 Bellowhead played their final gig.
Bellowhead may be no more, but Boden marches on! After a handful of festival dates in 2016, A re-release of his first solo album “A Painted Lady” and a UK tour in November 2016, his “voyage of discovery” as a solo artist will continue through 2017, and so we are expecting some exciting new material on Saturday evening, with some beloved Bellowhead numbers thrown in of course for good measure!
